The Braves got a good pitching performance from Mike Minor and a home run from Chipper Jones that held up to defeat Tim Lincecum and the Giants 1-0 in Atlanta Thursday night. The Braves took 3 of the 4 games from the Giants.
Minor went 6 innings allowing 4 hits, 0 runs, 1 IBB, and 9 Ks. He was helped out by some good defense in the 3rd. With 1 out and Ross on first, Minor threw a pitch in the dirt that bounced away from Brian McCann. Ross started to go and McCann threw to Freddie Freeman at first, Freeman fired down to Dan Uggla at second to get Ross. Then Freeman made a diving catch in foul territory over the tarp and into the crowd for the final out of the inning.
The Braves had a chance to break through against Lincecum in the 4th. Michael Bourn hit a lead off single. After Martin Prado made an out, McCann hit a double to right putting runners at 2nd and 3rd. Then Uggla struck out and Freeman ground out to second.
In the 5th, Chipper stroked his homer to right center(11 HR, 55 RBIs). Chipper also picked up a double(26) off of the base of the left center field wall off of Lincecum in the 7th.
Eric O’Flaherty, Jonny Venters, and Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless 7th, 8th, and 9th. Kimbrel earned his 37th save.
