Rangers @ Braves

For Saturday’s game, how about a little Good, Bad, and Ugly?

The Good: Uggla had 2 RBI doubles! He hit one down the 3rd base line and the other hit the top of the yellow line in dead center, just missing a homerun. McCann stroked his 11th homer(39th RBI). We came back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game in the 8th.

The Bad: After tieing the game in the 8th, we couldn’t push another run across. Scott Proctor came on in the 10th and gave up 2 hits, a walk, and the winning run. Heyward and Schafer both went 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts between them.

The Ugly: The 1st inning–Heyward let a ball get under his glove for an error that allowed a run to score, then Freeman and Uggla botched a grounder to 1st for another error. It was 2-0 before most people were in their seats. Freeman went 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts.Ouch.

Today’s game–OK, it’s Father’s Day so I spent most of the day doing things with my husband and our children so by the time I got the game turned on Jurrjens was already out of the game. He pitched into the 6th, only gave up 1 run throwing 116 pitches in the heat. In the 3rd, Uggla got our 1st hit! I hope eventually his hits will be so commonplace that I won’t feel the need for an exclamation point (I’m not to that point yet). Then Heyward knocked Uggla & Schafer in to give us a 2-0 lead. Other good things: Freeman got 3 hits, Venters looked great, McClouth made a great catch on a sinking liner in left, Kimbrel made it look easy in the 9th for his 19th save. Over all, a pretty good day for the Braves as they win 4-2.

Of interest: Yes, Nate McClouth is back and in left field. I think that’s a great fit for him–he just doesn’t have the arm for center. I like keeping Schafer at leadoff and in center field. He’s still not hitting for a high average but he seems to find a way to get on base and once there, look out! He easily stole 2nd today.

Joe Mather was designated for assignment. No great loss, sorry Joe.

Phillies lost! We’re 5 games back, tied with Milwaukee and St.Louis for the wildcard at 40-33.

Tomorrow’s game: Blue Jays @ Braves 7:10

Anxious to see the return of Yunel Escobar!
